I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Clayton, NC. I have a wide variety of experience working as a therapist in diverse settings since 1997. I provide cognitive behavioral therapy with children, adolescents, adults, families, and couples. Although I am not originally from this area, I have lived here for many years and have extensive experience working at the county level as well as in private care. I grew up in the military and was in the Army myself, and enjoy working with military personnel and their families. I have previously been a foster parent and, although I no longer provide foster care, I have several children of my own, so I am very knowledgeable about childhood disorders, working with local school systems and social services, etc. I have also been trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral therapy and often work with individuals who have experienced traumatic life events.

Whether working with children or adults, I work hard to help individuals better understand their symptoms and to develop more effective skills in managing or eliminating their symptoms. In an effort to do so, I often educate clients about improved communication skills, relaxation skills, conflict management, and stress reduction techniques. When working with children and adolescents I think it's essential for parents to be involved in the treatment. This ensures that the child is learning skills that will help him/her to better manage their environment while the parent also learns or gets support with how to encourage the use of the skills in the home environment. Although change and growth can be an intimidating process, with the right support and relationship anything is possible.
